Žemaitės gatvė

LT2016 m. rugsėjo pradžioje atlikti žvalgomieji tyrimai Rietavo senojo miesto vietos (UK 29647) teritorijoje, Žemaitės gatvėje platinamų esamų ir naujai projektuojamų pėsčiųjų ir dviračių takų vietoje. Platinamas takas prasideda nuo Oginskio ir Žemaitės gatvių sankryžos ir eina Laisvės aikštės link. Nuo Laisvės aikštės iki bažnyčios tvoros kampo projektuotas naujas 2,3 m pločio, 18 m ilgio takas. Nuo bažnyčios tvoros J. Naujalio gatvės link tiestas 65 m ilgio, 3 m pločio takas ir asfaltuota apie 30 m ilgio, 5 m pločio žvyrkelio atkarpa, esanti už suprojektuoto tako iki J. Naujalio gatvės sankryžos. Žvalgomųjų tyrimų metu iškasti 8 1x1 m dydžio šurfai, iš viso 8 m2 plotas. Šurfai 1–4 tirti platinamo tako, šurfai 5–7-naujai tiesiamo tako, šurfas 8-asfaltuojamo kelio atkarpoje. [...] [p. 326].

ENIn 2016, archaeological investigation was conducted at newly planned and reconstructed pedestrian and bicycle paths. Along Žemaitės street 8 test pits (1x1 m) were excavated a total of 8 m2 In test pit 3 at a depth of 50–55 cm below the ground level there was 19th-20th century stone pavement. In test pit 4 no cultural layer or archaeological structures were detected, but below existing electric cable a silver Netherlands Utrecht thaler with a 1767 date on its obverse was discovered. In test pit 5 at a depth 0,95–1 m below the ground level 18th–19th century cultural layer (black soil) was located, with 40 archaeological finds of pottery and glass fragments. In test pit 6 several 18th–19th century pottery fragments were found. All fragments were detected in a small (50 cm wide) pit filled with brown soil and gravel. In other test pits there were no archaeological finds or structures.
