Prienų parapijos dvasininkai XIX a. - XX a. pradžioje

LTŠiame straipsnyje nepateikiami duomenys apie Prienų bažnyčioje XVII–XVIII a. dirbusius dvasininkus, nes tam reikėtų atlikti specialius tyrimus. Šio tyrimo objektas – Prienuose dirbę kunigai nuo XIX a. pradžios iki 1914 metų. Duomenys pateikiami apie Prienų parapijos klebonus, vikarus, rezidentus ir laikinai bažnyčiai priskirtus kunigus. Prienai buvo viena didžiausių Seinų (Augustavo) parapijų, kuriai 1914 m. priklausė 11110 tikinčiųjų. [Iš teksto, p. 199]

ENPrienai was first mentioned in written sources as a small manor of the Birštonas Manor in 1502. In the middle of the 16th century, Prienai became the centre of a large municipality and a town started to grow up. According to the prevailing notion in the 16th century, a settlement was considered to be a town when it had a church. Therefore, the first church could have been built before 1604. Some sources state that the first wooden church in Prienai was built in 1609. In 1655 the church burnt down and in 1674 a new one was built. When the church became obsolete, a third church was built in 1750. It still stands today. Prienai was one of the largest parishes in Seinai (Augustavas) Diocese, with 11.110 believers in 1914.
