LT„Vaikystė – tai didelė žemė, iš kurios visi esame kilę“, – daugelį metų tikime ir su meile kartojame rašytojo A. de Sent Egziuperi žodžius. Būsimo pedagogo ir poeto Antano Saulyno vaikystės žemė – Alytus. Čia jo kelio pradžia, jo šviesus pasakų pasaulis, tačiau, kaip ir kiekvieną žmogų, jį viliojo tolių toliai. Ir jis bėgo vis tolyn, kol pagaliau vėl grįžo į savo pradžią, kaip iš dausų sugrįžta paukščiai [p. 283].

ENAntanas Saulynas – a pedagogue and a poet – was born on 13 July 1927. He was born in Alytus, into a family of civil servants. After graduating from Alytus Gymnasium, he enrolled at Vytautas Magnus University, choosing to study the Lithuanian language and literature. Before graduating, he started working as a radio announcer. He worked at the Vilnius Philharmonic and was the first post-war Lithuanian anchor man. He graduated from the Vilnius Pedagogical Institute with a degree in English and German studies. At the same institute he taught the German language and aesthetics. In 1976, he returned to live and work in his native Alytus. He worked at the Alytus Polytechnic and taught English at the professional school of Alytus. He started writing poems while studying in gymnasium. His first book was published only in 1991. For many years he collaborated with the most popular composers B. Gorbulskis, M. Novikas, M. Vaitkevičius, T. Makačinas, J. Tiškus, V. Telksnys and others. He composed over one hundred songs and translated over a thousand. After his death, in 1996, Ina Saulynaitė-Sinkevičienė published a collection of his songs entitled "Žalioj stotelėje" (Green Stop). Antanas Saulynas died in 1993.
