LT2016 m. ir 2017 m. birželį buvo atliekami žvalgomieji tyrimai Kopgalyje (Klaipėda, Smiltynės g. 3), buvusio Kopgalio kaimo vietoje. Tyrimais siekta lokalizuoti 1942 m. miesto plane pažymėtus pastatus. Rašytinių šaltinių duomenimis, Kopgalio teritorija pradėta apgyvendinti tik XIX a. I pusėje. Istoriografijoje nusistovėjusi nuomonė, jog iki XIX a. ENIn 2016–2017, a field evaluation was conducted at the former site of Kopgalis village (Smiltynės St. 3, Klaipėda) in the N part of the Curonian Spit in order to locate the site of four buildings plotted on the 1942 German detailed plan of Klaipėda. The first farmsteads here appeared circa 1830. After the Second World War, the village’s territory fell under the control of the Soviet Army and eventually the village was completely destroyed. The buildings are shown on the aforementioned 1942 map and one photograph. In 2016, a total of 20 m2 were excavated and part of a stone, brick, and concrete foundation was uncovered in the first trench. In 2017, four trenches (a total of 40 m²) were excavated and one outbuilding and a dwelling were located. The chronology of the uncovered cultural layers and artefacts covers the first half of the 20th century. Eleven pieces of flint, preliminarily dated to the neolithic-bronze age and a 17th–19th century shard were found in the first 2016 trench and all the 2017 trenches.
