LT2017 m. vykdyti II Pasaulinio karo laikų vokiečių karių palaikų ekshumavimo darbai Labanoro seniūnijoje (Švenčionių r.). Netoli Paibutiškio ir Pašekščio kaimų ištirtos dvi 10,5 m2 dydžio perkasos, iš viso 21 m2 plotas. Atidengti ir ekshumuoti dviejų II Pasaulinio karo vokiečių karių palaikai. Įžemis-geltonas smėlis tyrinėtose vietose aptiktas 15–20 cm gylyje. Dažniausiai vienintelis informacijos šaltinis apie pavienių vokiečių karių žūties ir laidojimo aplinkybes yra vietinių gyventojų liudijimai ir netiesioginiai prisiminimai. ENIn 2017, two 10.5 m2 trenches (a total of 21 m2 ) were excavated near Paibutiškis and Pašekštis villages in Labanoras eldership, Švenčionys district, (East Lithuania). The remains of two Second World War german soldiers were discovered and exhumed. Information about the gravesites was supplied by the inhabitants in the vicinity of Labanoras. According to witnesses, both soldiers had been buried by local inhabitants. The burial sites had been marked by small wooden crosses without inscriptions. The location of the Paibutiškis grave had been shown to a witness by his father. Together they had unearthed the burial and placed the discovered items in a bag that they deposited beside the soldier’s left foot before reburying the remains. The aforementioned bag was found at a depth of 20–30 cm. The grave contained a complete skeleton, a large quantity of tree roots, half an identification tag, and some ammunition fragments. In Pašekštis, the individual had been interred supine at a depth of 75–80 cm with his body oriented NW–SE and his head to the NW. The arms were bent in the pelvic area, the legs straight. A complete identification tag and ammunition fragments were found beside the skeleton. The remains belonged to 30–35 and 20–25 year old males. Both bore changes that could have been consequences of a long campaign. The soldier buried in Paibutiškis had a pelvic bone lesion caused by a bullet or shrapnel. Several pieces of embedded shrapnel and perimortem fractures were also found. A puncture wound was discovered in the occipital. Judging from the abbreviations on the tags, the soldiers belonged to: the Headquarters Company of the 311 Grenadier Replacement Battalion and the Basic Training Company of the 316 Grenadier Replacement Battalion (ST. Kp. G.E.B. 311; Stamm. kp. Gr.E.B. 316).
