Search for new monuments in Akmenė district
Summary / Abstract:

LT2017 m. rugsėjį ir lapkritį LNM archeologinė ekspedicija Akmenės rajone ieškojo naujų ir mažai žinomų kultūros vertybių, žvalgė ir tyrinėjo spėjamus archeologijos paminklus. Kivyliuose ir Klykoliuose surengti archeologiniai žvalgymai, Suginčiuose-žvalgomieji tyrimai. Aptikti radiniai saugomi LNM. 2017 m. archeologinė ekspedicija atskleidė, kad didesnio tyrinėtojų dėmesio nesulaukęs Akmenės rajonas pamirštas nepelnytai. Aptikti nauji laidojimo paminklai papildė archeologinį žemėlapį, suteikė trūkstamų duomenų apie šio krašto apgyvendinimą priešistoriniais ir istoriniais laikais, parodė, kad neproporcingai mažą žinomą archeologijos paminklų skaičių Akmenės krašte nemažai nulėmė tai, kad nerengtos kryptingos žvalgomosios ekspedicijos. Naujų paminklų paieškas Akmenės rajone numatoma tęsti. [...] [p. 541, 548-549].

ENIn 2017, the LNM archaeological expedition looked for new and little known cultural heritage sites in Akmenė District, surveying and evaluating suspected monuments. An unknown Middle Iron Age cemetery and an Early Modern period old cemetery were discovered but the survey of another locality yielded no tangible results. Grave goods from 16th–17th century inhumations: a signet ring, a round buckle, and a bronze fitting as well as two 19th early 20th century finds: a button and a bulla-type seal, which are not burial related, were discovered in Kivyliai Old Cemetery II. A Klykoliai hill, which locals call a hillfort, and the land at its foot were surveyed but only bronze performs of uncertain chronology were found. No signs of a hillfort were identified.7.3 m2 were excavated in 5th–8th century Suginčiai Cemetery and another roughly 3300 m2 were thoroughly surveyed; finds were discovered in an approximately 70 x 70 m area (4900 m2 ). Two Semigallian inhumations, which contained a male over age 25 and a female over age 50, were excavated. 141 small finds, 8 sherds of hand built and hand thrown pottery, and 2 pieces of clay daub were found during the excavation and survey. The finds mainly consisted of tools, weapons, and ornaments while almost no apparel, household, or riding gear artefacts were discovered. The finds from the 16th–17th centuries and the 19th early 20th century are separate and are connected with the heritage of Suginčiai village.
