Summary / Abstract:

LTDaunoravos kaime (Joniškio r., Satkūnų sen.), pirmojo tvenkinio P pusėje, dvaro sodybos R pusėje apie 5000 m2 teritorijoje lokalizuotas VI-VIII a. kapinynas. 2017 m. numatyta atlikti archeologinius tyrimus šio Žiemgalos etnokultūrinei sričiai priskiriamo spėjamo kapinyno teritorijoje. Daunorava rašytiniuose šaltiniuose minima nuo 1557 m. kovo 10 d., kai Lietuvos didžiojo kunigaikščio Žygimanto Augusto (1544-1572) Mykolui Maškovskiui suteiktoje privilegijoje paminėtas Daunoravos dvaras su Nartaučių, Vytaučių ir kt. kaimais. Atliktų žvalgomųjų tyrimų rezultatai leidžia teigti, jog šioje vietoje kapinyno teritorija buvo žymima neteisingai, nes palaidojimų ar archeologinių radinių nerasta. Visą kapinyno teritoriją išžvalgius metalo ieškikliais, jokių su kapinynu sietinų radinių irgi nerasta. [...] [p. 213-215].

ENIn 2017, five areas (a total of 50 m2 ) were excavated and another roughly 5000 m2 were surveyed at Daunorava manor and on the grounds of a 6th-8th century cemetery in Joniškis district. Cellar fragments from a building dating to the first half of the 19th century were partly unearthed in areas 1 and 2. In area 1, the 2 m long and roughly 40 cm wide remains of a partially destroyed red brick wall were found at a depth of 40 cm and a 5 m long and roughly 80 cm wide cellar wall fragment at a depth of 70 cm. The cellar’s floor was reached at a depth of 1.6–1.7 m. In area 2, the corner of a building’s cellar (with about 2 m of the N wall and about 60 cm of the E wall) was unearthed at a depth of 70–95 cm. The remains of these two buildings should be dated to the first half of a 19th century. It can be assumed that the 1915 map of Skaistgirys shows the situation of Daunorava manor before its reconstruction in the mid-19th century. The German cartographers probably used old Russian imperial maps to fill in any unknown data. Some window and bottle glass shards and three fragments of ‘pot-shaped’ stove tiles (Topfkacheln) were found in the cellars’ mixed soil fill. In area 3, a stove tile fragment (with dark brown glaze) and John II Casimir 1666 shilling were found at a depth of 30-40 cm. No burials or cemetery-related artefacts were found.
