Summary / Abstract:

LT2016 m. liepą Papilės kapinyno (Akmenės r.) (UK 1823) teritorijoje KVP vykdė detaliuosius tyrimus. Tyrimai atlikti būsimų vandentiekio ir buitinių nuotekų įvadų nuo magistralinių trasų, esančių Liepos gatvės važiuojamojoje dalyje, vietose. Įvadų vietose 1 pav. Kapinyno situacijos planas: 1 – tirtos perkasos. J. Stankevičiūtės brėž. Fig. 1. Situation plan of the cemetery: 1 – excavated trenches. Liepų g. 4, 6, 7, 12, 14, 16, 17/17A ir Piliakalnio g. 8 sklypuose iki įžemio ištirtos 8 perkasos (1 pav.), jų bendras plotas siekė 125 m2 . Ekspedicijos metu sužinota, jog Liepų g. 13 gyventojas namuose saugo statant ūkinį pastatą aptiktus bei iš kaimynų gautus radinius. Kapinyno teritorijoje aptikta XI–XIII ir XVI a. buitinės keramikos šukių, bet nesunaikinto kultūrinio sluoksnio nerasta. Tačiau Liepų g. 17 ir 17A sklypuose tirtoje perkasoje tirtas pilko grunto su XVI a. radiniais sluoksnis leidžia manyti, jog kapinyno teritorijoje žmonės apsigyveno bent nuo XVI a. ENIn 2016, an excavation (8 trenches down to natural soil, a total of 125 m2 ) was conducted at Liepų St. 4, 6, 7, 12, 14, 16, 17/17A and Piliakalnio St. 8 in the territory of Papilė cemetery. During the investigation, it was learned that the resident at Liepų St. 13 had preserved in his home the finds discovered during the construction of an outbuilding and obtained from neighbours. In all 11 burials were excavated and the remains of destroyed burials (bones and various grave goods from at least six individuals) were discovered in the trenches at Liepų St. 7, 14, and 16. It was determined that the individuals had been interred at a very shallow depth: just 40–90 cm and the individuals, probably not in a coffin, had been placed on natural soil. They appear to have been buried in rows. The arm positions were very diverse and the spatial orientation depended on sex and status: male heads to the N or NW, female to the S. The individuals had been interred with grave goods, on the basis of which the investigated burials were dated to the 7th-9th centuries. Sherds of 11th-13th and 16th century household pottery were discovered on the grounds of the cemetery. The layer with 16th century finds allows one to think that people have lived on the grounds of the cemetery since the 16th century.
