ENThe article deals with general, scientific explorations on harbour settlements in the Baltic area, especially on early medieval harbour settlements, hardly ever include archaeological reflections on sea bound settlement geography on the territory of the Soviet Union. The harbour settlement of Heiligenau, Heiligen Aa, Sventoji is an example of missing links Baltic area and Russia. In this article the paleontographic, economical and political situation during Viking times as well as the organization of the settlement in medieval times and the English influence with the building-up of an English Kontorei in the 17th Century is described.
