Summary / Abstract:

ENResearch results in linguistics are communicated in various national languages despite the dominance of English language as the lingua franca. References to texts in several languages characterize the publications of »foreign linguists« whose research is confronted by their mother tongue, the English language, and the foreign language they study. This article argues that the multilingual discourse in German studies and research outside German-speaking countries is characterized by different types of intertextuality as expressed in quotations, references, borrowed concepts, and usage examples from non-German-language texts used in publications by Lithuanian German philologists. The analysis shows that texts by Lithuanian German philologists are characterized by complex multilingual intertextuality expressed in references to texts in several languages and translated quotes.
