LT2018 m. rugpjūtį ISS atliko Butrimonių miestelio istorinio centro (UK 17074) žvalgomuosius tyrimus. Tirta miestelio centrinė aikštė, kurioje buvo pradedami didelės apimties tvarkybos, fontano įrengimo bei kiti darbai. Archeologiniai tyrimai Butrimonyse vyko pirmą kartą. Žvalgomųjų tyrimų 2018 m. metu ištirti septyni 1x1 m dydžio šurfai (iš viso-7 m² plotas). Šurfai 1–4 tirti aikštės V dalyje, 5 ir 6-centrinėje dalyje ir 7-R gale. ptikta. Šurfas tirtas iki 45 cm gylio. Šiuo metu kiek žemesnėje aikštės V dalyje iki XX a. I pusės turėjo būti iki 2 m gylio dauba su, tikėtina, upeliu ar griova, žemėjančia P kryptimi link Plasaupės dešiniojo intako aukštupio (slėnio). XX a. I pusėje įrengiant aikštę, dauba, skyrusi ankstesnę bei aukštesnę aikštę nuo miestelio V dalies, buvo užpilta artimiausiu senojo miesto vietos aplinkiniu kultūriniu sluoksniu (XVI/XVII–XVIII a.) ar buvusios aikštės kalvelės išlyginimo gruntu ir visa aikštė išgrįsta vidutinio dydžio ir mažais akmenimis. ENIn 2018, seven test pits (a total of 7 m²) were excavated during the evaluation of the historical centre of Butrimonys. In the W part of the square was a 16th/17th–18th/19th century cultural layer containing abundant finds as well as a fill and paving layer with 19th–20th century finds that extended down to a depth of 1.9– 1.95 m (Test Pits 1 and 4). A cultural layer with 19th–20th century finds was recorded at a depth of up to 65 cm in Test Pit 1, charred floorboards from a building that probably burnt in the mid- 19th or early 20th century being unearthed at a depth of 65–70 cm. A cultural layer with abundant 16th/17th–18th century and 19th century finds was recorded at a depth of 80 cm-1.9 m. Stone paving dating to the first half of the 20th century and laid orderly using 7–25 cm diameter natural cobbles was unearthed at various locations in the square. The cultural layer in the central part of the square was less rich and up to 1 m (in Test Pit 2)-2.1 m thick (in Test Pit 3). Finds from the 17th early 20th century were discovered in Test Pits 2 and 3. 19th century finds predominated in Test Pit 4, but earlier (17th–18th century) finds were also encountered. No paving or traces of it were found in Test Pits 5 and 6. A cultural layer with isolated 17th–20th century finds and those with no clear date was found at a depth of 40–65 cm. It is clear that in this part of the square, to the S of the monument stone, the paving was destroyed in the 20th century. The paving in Test Pit 7 was laid directly on sterile soil and no finds were discovered.
