Tyrimai Laisvės alėjoje ir jos prieigose

LT2019 m. atlikta Laisvės alėjos ir prie jos prieinančių E. Ožeškienės gatvės bei Savanorių prospekto rekonstrukcija. Statybos darbai vykdyti Kauno miesto istorinės dalies, vadinamos Naujamiesčiu (UK 22149), teritorijoje, taip pat Vilniaus gatvės dalyje, esančioje Kauno senamiesčio (UK 20171) teritorijoje. Iki šiol Kauno Naujamiestyje nenustatytas archeologinis vertingųjų savybių pobūdis. Archeologinių tyrimų poreikis atsirado 2018 m., kai Laisvės alėjoje rastas monetų lobis. Tais pačiais metais T. Poška atliko žvalgomuosius tyrimus ir žvalgymus Laisvės alėjos V dalyje (ATL 2018 metais, 2019, p. 637). Ši teritorija iki 1843 m. buvo bemaž tuščia. Tada suplanuotas Naujamiestis, turėjęs tapti naujuoju Kauno administraciniu centru. Bulvaro tipo Laisvės alėja (tuomet vadinta Nikolajaus prospektu) tapo kompozicine šios teritorijos ašimi. ENIn 2019, 16 trenches and 7 test pits (a total of 288.4 m2) were excavated and approximately 8000 m2 surveyed on Laisvės Avenue and the adjacent streets. A cemetery from the second half of the 17th – early 19th century was identified and 4 burials excavated. Some of the burials had been destroyed during construction work. Three rubbish pits filled with 16th–17th-century pot sherds, panel (Blattkacheln) and ‘bowl-shaped’ (Schüsselkacheln) stove tiles, roof tiles, and animal bones, were excavated. One pit contained a Sigismund II Augustus (1544–1572) denar. Isolated 16th–18thcentury finds were discovered throughout the area, but a clearly distinguishable 16th–18th-century horizon could not be identified. It was determined that in the vicinity of the investigated locations there would have been little development in the 16th–17th centuries and almost no economic activity occurred there. A rich cultural layer formed only from the 19th century. The location of the late 19th-century tramway line was identified.
