Summary / Abstract:

LT2019 m. Alytaus senojo miesto vietos (UK 33722) teritorijoje, esančioje pirmajame Alytuje, sklype Merkinės g. 9–2 planuojamo nuotekų tinklo vietoje vykdyti detalieji tyrimai. Pirmojo Alytaus gyvenvietė yra dešiniajame Nemuno krante. Ji pradėjo augti XV a. [...] [p. 213].

ENIn 2019, an excavation: one 1 m x 38.2 m, was conducted on the plot at Merkinės St. 9-2, Alytus. A layer with rare 17th–19th-century ceramic finds was recorded away from the street in the N part of the plot. Extensive domestic activity probably occurred at this site where an orchard or a garden had existed. Sterile soil was reached at a depth of 40–50 cm. Two pits with sparse 17th–18th-century ceramic finds were discovered. Closer to Merkinės Street in the E and S parts of the plot, the excavated cultural layer was rich. It had been partially destroyed in the 20th century during various earthworks. On the plot’s E edge the cultural layer had been dug up to a depth of up to 40–50 cm, but in the S part it had survived better. Under the 20th-century layers, from a depth of 20–30 cm lay a horizon of 17th–19th-century layers. Sunken structures were encountered in the sterile soil of the plot’s E and S parts. The investigation recorded post holes and household rubbish pits with abundant 16th–18th-century household and structural ceramics finds and a spindle, various pits, and the possible contours of the plot’s fence beside Merkinės Street. Thus intense domestic activity occurred on the plot in the 17th–18th centuries, wooden buildings stood there, and in the N part of the plot, at a distance from the street, there was an orchard or garden.
