Summary / Abstract:

2007 m. kapinyną dar kartą žvalgė B. Dakanis ir A. Skrupskelis. ŽMA saugomas įmovinis ietigalis, kurį ardamas lauką 1974 m. surado Vladas Alminas, gyvenęs Pūčkorių kaime. [...] [p. 160].

ENIn 2020, a field evaluation and survey were conducted in the territory of Pūčkoriai Cemetery (Plungė District, West Lithuania). 4200 m² in the cemetery’s territory and in its vicinity were methodically surveyed using a metal detector. The survey yielded 9 finds, some of which date to the 10th–12th centuries. 4 trenches (59 m2), in which 8 inhumations were discovered, were excavated on the cemetery’s edges. Of these 5 burials contained adults, 3 children. The burials were found at a depth of 30–65 cm. The pit contours were oriented SE–NW. In almost all of the burials the individuals had been interred with grave goods. Judging from their composition, 2 burials contained males, burial 1 probably a female. The males had been interred with a spearhead, a sickle, a symbolic broad axe, a belt, a coil ring, etc., the suspected female with 2 knives, 5 penannular brooches, a ring, etc. The cemetery encompasses the entire protected territory established for it and definitely extends beyond its borders to the NW and SE. Based on the available research material Pūčkoriai Cemetery dates to the 10th–12th centuries and probably belonged to a Curonian community. This is indirectly confirmed by Gegrėnai Hillfort 3 km to the SE, where it is conjectured that the Curonian Land of Ceklis and Gegrė Castle existed in 1253.
