Summary / Abstract:

LT2020 m. spalį – 2021 m. rugsėjį tyrinėta teritorija, iš P ribojama Panerių, iš R – Šv. Stepono, iš Š – Punsko gatvių, priskiriama Vilniaus miesto regeneracijos plano kvartalui 84b. XVI a. pradžioje ši teritorija liko už miesto gynybinės sienos, čia ilgainiui susiformavo Rūdninkų arba Šv. Stepono priemiestis. Už miesto sienos vartų Rūdninkų gatvės tęsinys – kelias į Rūdinkus ir Slanimą nutiestas tarp kalvų. XVII a. pradžioje ant vienos iš kalvų netoli kelio pradėta statyti mūrinė Šv. Stepono bažnyčia, medinė Šv. Lozoriaus prieglauda ir naujos kapinės. Kelio dalis nuo Rūdninkų vartų iki bažnyčios pradėta vadinti Šv. Stepono vardu. Š Šv. Stepono priemiesčio dalis apgyvendinta jau XVII a. I pusėje, o P dalyje buvo tik keletas sodybų. J. G. M. Fiurstenhofo XVIII a. II ketvirčio (1734– 1738 m.?) Vilniaus plano duomenimis, Šv. Stepono gatvės pradžioje, ties gynybinės sienos Rūdninkų vartais, vaizduojamos miesto posesijos su mediniais pastatais, o tolimesnė teritorija iki mūrinių Šv. Stepono bažnyčios komplekso pastatų abipus gatvės vaizduojama užstatyta pavieniais mediniais pastatais. [...] [p. 501-502].

ENThe investigation of the plots at Šv. Stepono Str. 33 and 35A in 2020–2021 consisted of the comprehensive excavation of a 2,718.6 m2 area and a survey of a 5,251 m2 area (7969.6 m2 total). The excavation and survey yielded: 1,132 pieces of 15th- to 20th-century numismatics and finds of special significance (of which, 531 coins and 131 lead seals); and 1,442 other archaeological artefacts also dated to the 15th–20th century. The vast majority of these, i.e., 2,331 pieces, or 91% of the total, were recovered from the fill of 20th-century disturbances. The N and E parts of the area contained early grey soil (5–115 cm thick) and light yellow sand (10–50 cm thick) layers which postdate the darker yellow sand layer, but the absence of finds leaves their chronology indeterminable. In the SW and E parts of the area, under the 20th-century buildings at Šv. Stepono Str. 33, and 35A, these layers were destroyed in 1938–1942, when archaeological deposits at a higher elevation were levelled for new buildings. Valuable deposits were preserved in pits discovered on the SE side of the area, and dated from the late 16th to the early 18th century. As elsewhere, the upper sections of these pits were disturbed by 20th-century levelling events. This portion of the area also contained the partial foundations of a 17th-century building, composed of stone and brickbat bound by clay mortar. The majority of the foundation was destroyed by levelling in the second half of the 20th century. The original building probably stood next to the road to Rudininkai until the 1715 fire. Ruins are depicted on Vilnius City map dating to the second quarter of the 18th century, W of the road to Rudininkai. The surface of the grounds was repaved twice in the 20th century, in 1938–1942 and in 1953–1960, and the surfaces of those periods bear fragments of stone pavements G2 and G1. Earlier deposits were destroyed. Finds dating predominantly from the late 16th to the 17th century suggest that deposits formed to the W of Šv. Stepono Street were of the same period.
