Summary / Abstract:

ENThe oldest inventory of Šateikiai church is dated back to 1821, it is written that at the time, there were two bell-towers in the temple, where bell inspectors found five bells. One of the bells was taken by rebels of 1831 rebellion to cast canons, but due to the lost rebellion, there was not enough time to melt the bell. Unfortunately, the bell was not returned to parishioners, it was included with war spoils and taken away to Daugavpils. In 1850, the same number of bells was indicated, in 1873, it was written that the small bell-tower contained three bells. In 1875, when the current church was built, bells were transferred to the tower, where they hang today. According to dean Jonas Jucys, two bells were taken away by Germans during the World War I. In 1927, parishioners cast a new, steel bell. Now, there are two bells fixed on metal beams in the tower: the small one, 32 cm across, dated to 1777, the bigger one was cast in 1927 at Bochum association, it is of more modest decoration. In 1972, the small bell was included in the list of monuments of national value.
