Svijanė - seniausia Klaipėdos praeities liudytoja

LTSvijanė turi tokį pat vardą kaip ir Oderio žiotyse esanti Swine. Manome, kad šis vardas atkeliavo iš vendų apgyvento Elbės ir Oderio tarpupio. Tai patvirtina šalia esantys vardai, kurių atitikmenų galime rasti Nemuno ir Ventos tarpupyje: Vitė, Šyša, Ventė, Minija, Barta, Varta, Pene, Rambynas, Tilžė ir kt. Tai patvirtina ir Vokietijos kalbininkų darbai. Vienintelė galimybė ir būdas perkelti šiuos vardus į mūsų kraštą buvo kelionė jūra, laivais, todėl vakarinių baltų kaip jūrininkų gretas turėtų papildyti vendai, venedai, o galbūt ir svijonai, taigi mūsų, ypač archeologų, užduotis atkreipti dėmesį į įvairius kasinėjimus minimose teritorijose. Kas žino, galbūt atrasime kur nors senąją susisiekimo priemonę - vendų laivą [p. 191].

ENThe aim of the present article - to relate hypothetical Venets - Veneds - Wends of Adria, Brittany (Bretagne), Oder to the Baltic Wends, who lived at Venta and perhaps in the basin of the Nemunas. The most important quality of all Venets - they all were the best sailors, had the best fleet were able to manage ships even during the most severe storms. Therefore saving the people from inevitable doom they could have moved by ships to more safe territories, to less populated areas of Europe. Beside Veneds, the ships of Swions (Svionas) -without sails, oar powered - were sailing the Baltic Sea as well. Swions together with Veneds were the main travellers sailing along the Baltic Sea routes; the names given to islands, bays and other reference points of sea routes are of Vened and Swion origin.
