The aim of the research is to analyze the concept of dark tourism and create a dark tourism route in Utena district. The tasks of the research are to perform the analysis of the concepts of tourism and dark tourism and to create the route of dark tourism in Utena district. The article reviews the concepts of tourism and dark tourism distinguished by various scientists and researchers, presents the objects of dark tourism in Utena district and the newly prepared route of dark tourism in Utena district. Dark tourism is becoming more and more relevant for tourists and attracts travellers, as such trips are full of ambiguous feelings, arousing feelings of fear and desire to know Tourism means appropriate activities related to travel, temporary stay outside the place of residence for a maximum of one year, provided that these activities are not study or paid work at the place visited. Dark tourism is a new, unusual but fast-growing type of tourism that visits horrific or even death-related places. These can be both natural and man-made disasters. Dark tourism involves visiting places that are associated with death, disaster, or that look macabre (terrible, horrible). The route of dark tourism in the Utena district includes a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, Utena St. The Chapel of the Queen of Martyrs of the Virgin Mary, the Museum of Freedom Fights, the Old Jewish Cemetery II and the Witches' Museum in Pačkėnai. The total mileage of the route is a little over 14 kilometres.
