ENOne of the most beautiful towns of Lithuania is 25 now. The youngest one is waiting for impartial investigations, an objective and attentive view at its history and the life of its inhabitants. Visaginas is not only a young town, but it’s a town of young people. In the early 1999 s there were 46% of people at the age of 30 and younger. This circumstance seems very interesting to the author of this book for the determination of the students’ social orientation. It was the first mayor, Vladimir Shchurov (15.04.1995 - I 1.03.1999), who had the draft of the questioning of the young people. His follower Antanas Ivanauskas has supported this work. The questions and the questionnaires have been printed and the authorities of the Education Department - Bronus Latėnas, Nina Bunina and Arturas Pimpe - have provided this arrangement. They employed of all the school on questionnaire the senior pupils on May 18-19 and the first gymnazia pupils and the IOlh form pupils - on May 30 - June 1, 1999. From I 137 questioned young people 789 of them have jilled in the forms, there are 69,39% of all the mentioned pupils. The most active ones were from ‘Atgimimo’ gimnazia (“atgimimo’ means ‘revival’), they are 90,80% of the potencial respondentors. By the way, the youngest respondent was 14 and the eldest one - 19. The most quantity of the questioned boys and girls were 17 years old ones-201 (25,48%). The specific history of the building of Visaginas predetermined different national structure of its inhabitants: at the beginning of 1999 there lived the representatives of 43 nationalities: Russians 55,0%, Lithuanians - 15,0%, Belorussians - I 1,0%, Poles - 8,0%, Ukrainians - 6,5%, Tatars - 0,9%, Lettish - 0,5%, Jews - 0,3%, and some others - 2,8%.In the questionnaires all the pupil have pointed out 10 nationalities: Russians- 509, Lithuanians - 68, Belorussians - 64, Poles - 39, Ukrainians - 34, Tatars - 5, Armenians and Lettish - 2, Lezghin - 1, Moldavian - 1.64 responders either didn’t name their nationalities or named 2 ones: the father’s and the mother’s. The author of this realized project and the book was guided by the program direction to reveal independent spiritual reference of the respondents’ life and to define their most important criteria. The questionnaire ‘Young Visaginas inhabitant’s portrait (social questioning)’ consists of 42 questions in which one can see large scale living groups, for example, material and spiritual values. They can express meaning of life, point the factors, determine success of life, differ their attitude to life, characterise families, classify their interests, show their attitude to nature, history, to the Atomic Power Plant, name their beloved writers and poets of West Europe, Slavonic and Lithuanian peoples. They could compose the lists of the most attractive political statesmen of West Europe, of the neighbouring to Lithuania countries, of Lithuania itself and of Visaginas. They tried to define their own future and the future of Visaginas. Full investigation costs much. Our investigation was free of charge by our common efforts. At the beginning of the book the author has analysed all the questionnaires filled by the pupils and pointed out that the most active ones were from ‘Atgimimo’ and ‘Geroses Viltes’. In such a way now everybody can see the portrait of Visaginas gimnazia pupil (’social aspect’) who adds a complicated portrait of a young Visaginas pupil.During the discussion with ‘Atgimimo’ gymnazia pupils in 1999 there was born an idea to express their attitude to life not only with the differencial numerals but to reveal how they comprehend and can characterise some living values. The author of this book has composed a list of values which has been approved by the members of the Education Department at a production meeting of school leaders. The chief of the Department gave that list to the leaders with the recommendations to ask their pupils to discribe one of the pointed values in it. And at that time the active pupils were from ‘Atgimimo’ and ‘Verdijane’. The author has translated some texts into the Lithuanian lan guage. All the respondentors have been acquainted with the texts and after that they gave their agreements to print the texts. The author is sorry that it was impossible to print all the pupils’ answers because of the size of the book and thanks all of them for their active doings. The author also gets the acknowledgements to the Education Departments and the school leaders for technical help during the referendum. The particular acknowledgements belong to Visaginas mayor Antanas Ivanauskas for his care during the preparations for this manuscript and its publication.
