ENThe LNMA has 11 of the 13 paintings by Szymon Czechowicz that were painted for the Benedictine St Catherine's Church in Vilnius. The museum received them in 1974 and thus far, seven have been restored. The offer to organise an international exhibition in Krakow and Vilnius in 2019 to commemorate 330 years since the birth of Czechowicz served as the stimulus to restore his Saint Gertrude. The painting arrived at the Pranas Gudynas Centre for Restoration in 2018, whereupon its microbiological contamination and the acidity of the canvas were assessed; this was followed by physical research, a FTIR spectrum analysis and morphological, microchemical, histochemical and stratigraphical analyses were conducted. The painting was completely restored by Birutė Miškinienė, who holds the highest qualification in easel painting restoration, and the easel painting restoration expert Inga Petkutytė. Now restored to its initial quality, Saint Catherine was exhibited in 2020 at the exhibition Genius of the Baroque. Szymon Czechowicz (1689-1775), held at the National Museum in Krakow.
