LTOrientalistinės dailės artefaktų patekimo į Lietuvos muziejus, bibliotekas ar privačius asmenų rinkinius ir jų reprezentavimo nuostatos, kaip mokslinio tyrinėjimo problema, mažai analizuotos. Straipsnio tema siekiama atkreipti dėmesį į Rytų Azijos meno paveldą Lietuvoje, iškelti eksponatų atributavimo problemas, suaktualinti Lietuvos dailėtyrininkų, kultūros istorikų, muziejininkų studijose išsamiau neaptartą aktorės ir režisierės U. Babickaitės-Graičiūnienės santykį su Rytų kraštų menu. Šiame straipsnyje didžiausias dėmesys sutelkiamas j U. Babickaitės kolekcionavimo veiklą ir dekoratyvinės vėduoklės iš sukauptos orientalistinės kolekcijos, saugomos Lietuvos teatro, muzikos ir kino muziejuje Vilniuje, pristatymą’. Tai pirmas bandymas identifikuoti suskleidžiamos popierinės vėduoklės averse vaizduojamą siužetą ir jį įkvėpusį literatūrinį šaltinį, iššifruoti reverse atspaustos kinų kaligrafinės inskripcijos tekstą. Rengiant straipsnį remtasi muziejiniais eksponatais, rašytiniais publikuotais ir nepublikuotais šaltiniais bei ikonografine medžiaga. Čia jungiami istorinis-kultūrinis, faktografinis- analitinis ir ikonografinis metodai, iš dalies taikomos meninio stiliaus tyrimo metodikos. ENThe topic of the article draws attention to the heritage of the East Asian art in Lithuania and highlights the problem of attributing the Oriental art. It focuses on the little discussed relationship between the actress and director Unė Babickaitė-Graičiūnienė (1897-1961) and the Eastern art; the article outlines her collection activities and the exhibition of the decorative fans from the Oriental collection held at the Lithuanian Theatre, Music and Film Museum in Vilnius. The original contribution of this article is identification of the plot depicted on the obverse side of a folding paper fan, the literary source that inspired it, and deciphering of the Chinese calligraphic inscription appearing on the reverse. It was believed that the obverse of the fan depicts the scene known as "Mei Yueying casts the magic with talent", taken from the novel written by an anonymous Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) author titled Xue Rengui's Campaign to the East. The reverse is decorated with an excerpt of the calligraphic inscription by Mi Fu (1051-1107) - a famous Song Dynasty (960- 1279) calligrapher, poet and painter - which is an interpretation of the painting "Elegant Gathering in the Western Garden". The analysis showed that the written excerpt is not related to the depicted plot or the characters of the scene "Mei Yueying casts the magic with talent" on the fan front. In fact, the visual narrative is purely contingent. Moreover, the calligraphic fan inscription appears to be unrelated to the painting "Elegant Gathering in the Western Garden". The findings demonstrate the essence and the beauty of the calligraphic artistic expression. Furthermore, the expressive fan apart from its intriguing artistic form also reveals Unė Babickaitė's exclusive interest in the Oriental details used as decorative accents: the oriental fan appears in the photographs ofthe actress' friends or relatives during the stage photoshoot sessio.Unė Babickaitė's oriental inclination emerged while living in Western Europe and eventually evolved into collecting East Asian art practice with a particular focus on the Chinese traditional clothing and accessories, most of which are related to theatre. The diverse collection gathered by Unė Babickaitė-Graičiūnienė influenced her personality - she drew inspiration for her creative work from the Oriental sources, she also had a nickname of "Oriental Flower". Unė Babickaitė's memoirs, diary, manuscripts, and her collection of the Oriental art comprise a valuable and interesting source for research, enabling closer insight into the personality ofthe actress and also deeper understanding of the Eastern culture and art.
