Противоречия модернизации и секуляризации в Литве во второй половине 1930-х годов
Alternative Title:
Сontradictions of modernization and secularization in Lithuania in the second half of the 1930s
Summary / Abstract:

ENThe author analyzes the peculiarities and contradictions of modernization and secularization in the Lithuanian identity of the second half of the 1930s in the context of the heritage of Vincas Mykolaitis-Putinas, including his novels «In the Shadow of Altars» and «Crisis». The author believes that the Lithuanian poet and prose writer began as a symbolist, but migrated to modernist poetics gradually. It is assumed that Vincas Mykolaitis-Putinas tried to deconstruct traditional romantic discourse, promoting the progress of modernist tendencies in Lithuanian prose. Vincas Mykolaitis-Putinas, as a writer, believed in creative freedom and did nor express political ambitions. Therefore, it is assumed that the classic of Lithuanian literature was a conformist, who adapted to an independent and Sovietized Lithuania. In general, the author believes that the role of Vincas Mykolaitis-Putinas in the modernization of Lithuanian identity has not been studied sufficiently, and his impact to secularization is underestimated. Keywords: Vincas Mykolaitis-Putinas, Lithuanian identity, nationalism, modern, modernization, secularization, Catholic Church. [From the publication]
