ENК. Jasiukaitis - a democratic writer of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, publicist, playwright, critic, an active public worker and citizen. The writer was born on 16th April, 1882 in Laborai village. Linkuva district (now Pakruojis district). He attended a home school, later - Mintauja gymnasium, where his democratic world outlook was formed and his first literary works were created. The most active period of his creative work was between 191)0 and 19(H). At that time he created more than 20 stories, scenes, in which the author manifested his sympathy with ordinary working people, called them to fight for better life. His works were published in the books: "Su Naujais Metais IA Happy New Year)", "Ašis (Axis)", "Kareivio pasakojimai (Soldier's Stories)". In 1907, K.Jasiukaitis secretly emigrated abroad, staying in Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy. In emigration he wrote excellent short stories: Bulvare (In the Avenue), Žmogus (The Man), Senė (An Old Woman), Griuvėsiuose (ln the Ruins). From 1919 till 1941, the writer lived in Panevėžys, where he didn't allot much time for literary work. He wrote memoirs "Mintaujos laikai (The Years in Mintauja)". "Laborų sodžiuje (In Laborai Village)", some feuilletons. He died on 4th August, 1941 in Utena, where he was buried. An important part of K.Jasiukaitis' material legacy is preserved in Panevėžys: in the Museum of Regional Exploration, in libraries, in the memorial room-museum which has been arranged in his house. It contains books, photographs, lettercards. personal belongings.
