"Lito tėvo" Vytauto Petrulio paltas - nepaprastos gyvenimo istorijos liudininkas

LTBiržų krašto muziejaus „Sėla“ ekspoziciją papildė išskirtiniai ir puikiai išsaugoti artefaktai, liudijantys apie iš Biržų krašto kilusio, pirmosios nepriklausomos Lietuvos Vyriausybėje (1918– 1940) Finansų, prekybos ir pramonės ministru dirbusio valstybės veikėjo, dažnai vadinamo „lito tėvu“ Vytauto Petrulio (1890–1941) gyvenimą ir tragišką likimą. Ministro prabangų juodos vilnos paltą ir dar keletą kitų asmeninių daiktų iš JAV atvežė V. Petrulio sūnus Mindaugas (g. 1937) ir anūkas Algirdas (g. 1961) Petruliai. Šeima, keletą dešimtmečių saugojusi šiuos daiktus namuose Amerikoje, nutarė sugrąžinti į tėvo, senelio gimtąją žemę. Turbūt galima teigti, kad palto kelionė, prasidėjusi 1944-aisiais šeimai traukiantis iš Lietuvos, baigėsi 2020-aisiais, kai tapo Biržų krašto muziejaus ekspozicijos dalimi. Straipsnio tikslas – per vieną eksponatą, paltą, atskleisti Vytauto Petrulio gyvenimo faktus, darbo, karjeros ypatumus, patirtus išbandymus, likusius amžininkų prisiminimus apie jį bei pasidalinti jauniausio sūnaus Mindaugo Petrulio atsiminimais apie jų šeimą, per II pasaulinį karą pasitraukusią į Jungtines Valstijas.

ENDuring the governance of the first independent Republic of Lithuania (1918–1940), as many as twenty-one Cabinet of Ministers were formed. In different years, the positions of ministers in various fields were held by prominent politicians and state figures from Biržai region. Even in five Lithuanian governments, Vytautas Petrulis (1890–1941) was Minister of Finance, Trade and Industry. And in the 11th Cabinet of Ministers, while being in this position, he also headed this Government. The significant work of this statesman and politician remained while introducing and arranging a stable Lithuanian currency – the litas, as the facsimile of his signature, is on the temporary banknotes issued by the Bank of Lithuania in 1922. In spring 2020, guests from the US arrived at the museum: Mindaugas Petrulis (b. 1937), son of former minister Vytautas Petrulis, and Algirdas Petrulis (b. 1961), the minister’s grandson. They brought a special gift: in 1944, when V. Petrulis’ family were retreating from Lithuania, his wife took the winter coat of her husband whose tragic fate she knew nothing about. For more than half a century, the family, blown to the US, protected a former luxury black wool coat with a sheepskin collar that they decided to return to their father’s, grandfather’s homeland. V.Petrulis’ family handed over to the museum for preserving several more personal belongings of the former minister, which they cherished. This article also quotes memoirs sent by V. Petrulis’ youngest son Mindaugas, who lives in the US, by an email in May 2021. These artifacts seen in the exposition of Biržai Region Museum “Sėla” perfectly and significantly help to present to visitors the era of first independent Lithuania, remind the life of the politician who created the state, the “the father of the litas” Vytautas Petrulis.
