ENDuring the long period of occupation, the monetary treasures collected at M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art were stored in repositories and known only to a narrow circle of archaeologists and numismatists. Due to the nature of the art museum, they did not find a place in the expositions and exhibitions for a long time. At the end of the 20th century, when the numismatic enthusiast prof. Stanislovas Sajauskas started working in the museum, the situation began to change. Thanks to his efforts, in 2001, commemorating the 80th anniversary of M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, the exhibition “Lithuanian money in late 12th century – the first half of the 20th century” was opened, where for the first time visitors saw monetary alloys and coins from the treasures of Drageliškės, Kaunas Benedictine Monastery and Aleksotas. Thanks to Stanislovas Sajauskas, the treasures stored in the museum have been explored and used in the museum’s expositions. The museum’s collections currently hold money from 36 treasures, most of which went to the museum during the interwar and war years, of which 7 treasures are on display to the public.
